Hi everyone,
I'm writing this on behalf of a dear friend of mine - a family who would never ask for help.
Their 5-year-old son, Henry, has been through more in his short life than most of us can imagine. From major surgeries, unexplained weight loss, feeding tube complications to hearing loss, and countless hospital visits - Henry has shown more strength, courage, and resilience than seems possible for someone so small.
Since March alone, Henry has had:
- Over 50 outpatient appointments
- 2 sedated MRIs and multiple CT scans
- Spinal surgery with an ICU stay - on his 5th birthday
- A broken arm
- A trip to Lurie Children's in Chicago for a second opinion
- A hearing aid - his "superhero ear"
- And now, a feeding tube conversion with a prolonged hospital stay
- All while still trying to get answers about why he isn’t growing, despite months of testing and specialist visits
Just this week, what should’ve been a routine change of Henry’s G-tube turned into another surgery. The tube balloon wouldn’t deflate, and it couldn’t be removed the normal way, so it was decided to change his G-tube to a GJ tube - a more complex feeding tube that delivers food directly into his intestines.
He’ll now need continuous feeds for part of the day, and the process of finding the right formula, timing, and rate is going to take at least a week in the hospital. It also means he'll be unable to eat by mouth for long stretches.
His parents are juggling full-time jobs, raising another child, trying to keep up with constant medical needs and showing up to every appointment with questions, patience, and hope. It’s overwhelming — emotionally and financially — and this is where we come in.
How You Can Help
Every donation will go toward:
- Medical travel & appointments
- Equipment not covered by insurance
- Time off work & basic needs while in the hospital
If you’ve ever met Henry, you know he’s pure joy. He’s funny, determined, and full of life. Even when he’s hooked up to machines or recovering from surgery, he’s cracking jokes, asking curious questions, and dreaming big.
If you can give, share, or send a kind word — thank you. Your support means more than you know.
Henry is a fighter. Let’s help give this amazing family the strength and resources they need right now.
