As most of you know Steve was diagnosed with esophageal cancer on August 12th. We all know treatments ,surgeries and time to recover can be a huge financial stress and right now the Duke family just needs to focus on Steve fighting and kicking cancers a**. Please help relieve some of the stress for this amazing and giving family. Steve has coached, mentored and supported so many ,its our time as a community to show our support for him.I have added Amy's information per the "Duke Strong" fb page.
On Monday August 12th, we received the call to confirm he has esophageal cancer. At this point we don't know what stage it's in, only that it's still confined to the esophagus and as far as they can tell from tests, it hasn't spread.
The current plan is to get him a feeding tube on Thursday because he can't eat. In addition, we're working on scheduling a PET scan ASAP. He has an appointment with the radiation oncologist on Friday at 9:20 and the medical oncologist Friday at 1pm. We also have a virtual appt on Friday at 4pm with Dr Alvarez alfrom the City of Hope Cancer center in LA to review and discuss the diagnosis and treatment plan. We are looking at traveling to LA next week to meet with Dr Alvarez in person and his team for assessment of his situation and either be referred to doctors here in Oregon or get treatment in LA while we're there.
The big picture plan is to get the feeding tube in, start chemo and radiation, then surgery to remove the esophagus (some or all of it) and do a stomach pull-up, then another round of chemo and radiation to kill anything that might be left.
We're fighting for aggressive treatment with no delay....for all of you who know me (Amy) I'm impatient and don't take no for an answer...I need to know the plan and want things done now...I'm on guard now...my turn to take care of my family...F*** cancer...it'll be sorry it messed with our family We have a cruise to go on over Spring Break in March...he's going to beat this
