Veronica's Service Dog
Veronica is an energetic and happy 11-year-old. Several months after she was born, we realized that she was not progressing, after seeing a neurologist and getting an MRI, Veronica was finally diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Only a few weeks later, we were told that Veronica also had damage to her optic nerves causing her to have low vision. Currently, Veronica has weakness in her right side. This causes her to wear a leg brace and impacts her ability to use her right arm and hand. Additionally, she has trouble with her vision. She cannot see very far (and glasses cannot correct optic nerve damage) and does not see changes in surface area (like a hole or a curb, a toy on the floor, or a drop-off on a playset). All of this causes Veronica to struggle to run and play with her friends. To make matters more complex, Veronica began having seizures at around the age of 4. Today, she has unexpected seizures. All of this together makes it difficult for Veronica to be independent. As she is entering her teenage years, we realize that Veronica will need more independence. Therefore, we have applied and have been approved for a service dog!!! This will greatly increase Veronica's ability to navigate the world by herself. Not only will her dog be able to help her move around better, making her aware of cracks or holes in the sidewalk, but it will be able to alert her family when she has a seizure. This will ensure that Veronica receives the care that she needs. Please help us to raise the funds needed to get Veronica a service dog.
