Also, my pride hurts, my ego hurts, I am not good at asking for help.
The people who were supposed to help(apartment complex, insurance company) have all let us down. We have had no one but ourselves to count on.
We had recently moved into an apartment and it came equipped with washer and dryer in unit. At 4am on July 29th the dryer set itself ablaze(reason to be determined but it was a faulty appliance). As we hurried to get our son out of bed and our dogs to safety, I could see the smoke filling the apartment just inches behind us. We called 911 and got our neighbors out quickly. They were able to extinguish the fire but by then the entire apartment had filled with thick black smoke. Everything we owned was now covered in black soot and smoke damaged. We have renters insurance. We should have been ok, right?
Wrong.
It has now been over a month. We have slept and lived in different places. Currently living in a hotel. Our son has had to start at a new school in the middle of this. Our apartment complex told us that our apartment was clean and ready to live in again. But when we went to see it, the carpet is still black with soot, the surfaces are still black with soot, the air ducts and AC were not cleaned, there were balls of lint and dirt and debris everywhere. Upon being informed that we will not live in these conditions, our apartment complex has been silent with no communication to us.
Our Renters insurance was supposed to pay to replace our beds and food and everything that they threw away. However, I was informed today that the policy has not enough to pay. I was never communicated to by my claims handler and have been blindsided by this. We now have no money to replace any of our damaged items (some items were cleaned). We have no beds, no grocery reimbursement, no money to buy all the household items you take for granted, and then some.
It has taken so much out of me to do this, to ask for help publicly.

In my deepest part of my heart, I thank those who take the time to read or even care. If you are able to donate, anything helps.
Thank you so very much.
God bless.
