The Man in the Stetson
Singing songs of wit and parody
A man of odd talents and tales
Living in his house in a tree
Now faces his greatest challenge
We take our roles in his story
As we rescue our brother
GREGORY BLANCHETTE, longtime resident of Girdwood and Homer, Alaska and previously hailing from Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Biddeford, Maine, has experienced a severe COVID infection with complications from a critical, untreated thyroid condition in October 2023. He is currently stable and rehabilitating in an Anchorage hospital and will be moving to his sister's house in Maine as soon as he's medically capable. His recovery is going to be long and difficult, but as all who love him know, he has an indomitable spirit. Since regaining consciousness in late October, Gregory has been working hard every day with his doctors to get better.
Family and friends have been at Gregory’s side during his entire convalescence, but as individuals we can only cover so much out of pocket. We're asking for your help in defraying medical, transportation, and household costs as we support Gregory in this next phase. This includes medical supplies for Gregory; facilitating continued in-hospital caretaking from his sister, Joan, as Gregory readies for transport; a business class flight to Maine; 30 days of speech therapy once in Maine; and building a mobility access ramp at his sister's house.
Knowing Gregory’s fierce independence, this was certainly never in his plans. Gregory has already done more unlikely and incredible things than most people do in two lifetimes—”in the movie of his life, he’d have to do his own stunts,” as they say—but our support will make sure he keeps writing and starring in his own script.
