Support Ruthie!

On March 23, 2023, Ruthie, was sent to The Wilmont Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following abnormal blood labs. In the days that followed, doctors confirmed our fears and Ruthie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive type of blood cancer.

Following weeks of intensive chemotherapy and multiple blood and platelet transfusions, she achieved remission and was released home to continue outpatient treatment. Since then, she has completed more rounds of chemotherapy. While we're encouraged by her remission, without a bone marrow transplant, her cancer will return.

Our family is so humbled by the amazing team at Strong and the Wilmont Cancer Center who have given her world-class care and the best chance at beating this horrible disease. We're incredibly grateful for the wonderful people at United Health Services, her employer, who have allowed her to use the bare minimum PTO hours to retain her health benefits. Unfortunately, hours are not infinite. Without full-time employment, day-to-day expenses add up quickly, not to mention the frequent trips to Rochester for continued care.

We thank all the family and friends who have shown their support for Ruthie emotionally, monetarily, and spiritually. Your kindness and love inspire us all.

If you're looking for other ways to support those with blood cancer like AML, there are a few things you can do.

Firstly, register to become a bone marrow donor here. Register, swab your cheek, and wait to save someone's life. This is not an invasive procedure!

Secondly, donate blood and platelets as often as you can. Blood supplies are always low and platelets have an incredibly short shelf-life. Over a quarter of all blood donations support those with blood cancer. Go donate!
