Hi everyone,

My name is Hunter Borges, and I’m creating this GoFundMe for my amazing mom, Gabriella. Around two years ago, everything changed when she was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. It’s a devastating and painful condition that has completely turned her life upside down.

What’s hardest to accept is that my mom has always done everything right, yet somehow her liver began to fail for reasons doctors still can’t explain. Her liver has enlarged to nearly the size of a football, and she’s in constant pain 24/7. Every single day, she wakes up sick, often throwing up blood, unable to work or even do the things she loves. Watching her go through this has been heartbreaking.

I have made the decision to donate part of my own liver to save her life because I can’t imagine my life without her. She has always put our family first, sacrificing so much to give me and my brother the opportunities she never had. She worked tirelessly to support us and, with unwavering courage, pulled us out of a physically and verbally abusive household, raising us herself and creating a life full of hope and opportunity. Every step of my journey, college, graduation, and the future I’m building, was made possible by her love, guidance, and sacrifice. Her strength, compassion, and selflessness have shaped who I am today.

My mom has always put others before herself. She raised two sons as a single mother and did it perfectly, making sure we always had love, guidance, and every opportunity she could give. Beyond our family, she has helped rehabilitate multiple people struggling with addiction, inspired by the loss of her own brother. She is a fighter who will do anything to help those in need. Truly, she is the best mom I could ever ask for, and I want to do everything I can to give her the chance to live a long, healthy life.

Unfortunately, this surgery and recovery will be extremely hard on both of us. We will both be out of work for a while, and the medical bills, travel, and living costs are adding up quickly. That’s why I’m reaching out for help.
