I first met this young man in 2013 when I was in Uganda with Ollie. We’ve stayed in touch ever since and over the years I’ve had the privilege of mentoring him as he’s worked towards building a better life for himself and his family.
He’s done everything right. Working hard, farming with goats, harvesting the land and taking every chance to earn money, saving every penny on my advice, with a clear goal in mind. To finish building a home and take the first steps towards starting his own new distribution business.
Recently, he travelled for hours to a bank in Kampala to withdraw his savings so he could pay the builders, move things forward and start buying stock for his business. On the way back, he was mugged. Everything he had worked for over 5 years was taken. The equivalent of £3,300 gone in a moment and his aspirations with it.
We’re going to support him, that was never in question. But I wanted to open this up in case anyone else felt they could help in some small way.
We’re setting up a GoFundMe to help him get back on track. First step is covering what he already owes the builders, then helping him rebuild towards the business he’s been working so hard for.
He’s a good person. Faith-led, disciplined and trying to do the right thing for his family.
If you’re in a position to contribute, even a small amount, it would mean more than you realise.
