Help Kiara's recovery

Our friends, Jay and Susan Fyten are currently dealing with a family crisis. Jay and Susan live with their children in Bellevue, Alberta. Their daughter Kiara was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis when she was 3. NF type 1 which Kiara has affects 1 in 3000 people. Kiara also suffers from Chiari Malformation. Chiari Malformations are structural defects in the base of the skull and cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance.

Everyday life for Kiara is a struggle, from walking to talking and struggling with behavioural issues. She fatigues very easily due to extremely low muscle tone and also struggles with dislocated knees. While on lengthy walks with her mother and brother it is easiest to use a stroller or wagon so that she doesn't struggle to keep up. Susan and Jay say that life with a child that has Neurofibromatosis is hard but also a blessing, they often refer to Kiara as their Warrior.

On October 7th of this year Kiara had a repeat MRI. On November 2nd Jay and Susan were informed that Dr.Gallagher and the tumour board were meeting to discuss two tumours found on Kiara's brain. One of the tumours she has had for over five years and has caused no issues. It is referred to as a Neurofibroma Plexiform ( which is common for Kiara's condition ) The new tumour is the one that causes major worry, and surgery was required. Immediate surgery was scheduled on November 12th at The Children's Hospital in Calgary. The family is staying in Calgary and expect to be there for at least a week. Jay and Susan have asked for people to send good vibes and prayers their way.

As a group of friends we have been struggling with how to best help them during this extremely difficult time. After lengthy conversations we hope that a Go Fund Me Account will directly help them with anything they may need. If you are able to donate in anyway it would be greatly appreciated, no amount is too small. Our hope is to help ease the financial strains they feel during this time so they can put all their focus on Kiara and her recovery.
