Rallying for Melody Gilbert: Love & Support

Melody has always been there for us, with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a heart full of love. Now, it's our turn to be there for her and to show her just how much she means to us.

First, a little backstory: Melody’s health battles began during her teen years when at the approximate age of 16 she was diagnosed with renal disease, which is a condition she was born with that prevents the kidneys from working properly. This left her kidneys with the ability to only function up to an unsustainable 50%. Doctors informed her that she had roughly ten years to live but amazingly enough, she managed to thrive for over two decades. She was even blessed with two healthy children, despite the risks that pregnancy presented. In her mid-thirties, she went through radiation due to a cancerous parotid tumor, which is fancy for the salivary gland. This cancer treatment exacerbated her renal symptoms and illness crept in, causing chronic kidney failure and full-on fibromyalgia. Dialysis became necessary and continued for three years, proceeded by a kidney transplant that she was able to receive from a family member at the age of 36. This selfless gift of life has graciously afforded her almost 21 extra years with her friends and family.

Now she has cancer, which has metastasized, including in her bones. Various side effects from medications, as well as other ailments and diagnoses, have made it impossible for her to work. Anyone who knows Melody has likely witnessed her pushing through the physical demands of her job in the past; her dedication to the people she loves and the music she performs has always been a driving force. Despite facing this challenging journey, she remains strong, grateful, and filled with hope for the future.

With the support of her loved ones, Melody will continue forward with grace and courage.
