A few words from Ben
Hi, My name is ben! I am asking for your help to pay for gender affirming top surgery.
I began to feel gender dysphoria around my chest over ten years ago. I turned to chest binding to relieve some of the dysphoric feelings. I learned quickly that it was a short-term solution because it is painful and difficult to maintain. Binding is not recommended for more than 9 hours a day (although the goal of 9 hours feels impossible if one wants to enjoy a normal day that includes work and enjoying time with friends). I have now been binding my chest for over 10 years.
In the time since, I have acted as a community organizer and worked on a post-release team to improve quality of life for trans asylum seekers.
WHY NOW?
Last year, my Nana, Millie was diagnosed with Leukemia and I became her full-time caretaker. As a way to give back to myself and honor that role, I wanted to re-invest in my own caretaking and self-love, with the help of my community.
Further, my spine has become bent after binding my chest for over 10 years. In order to correct the chronic back pain that has resulted, I need to pursue top surgery before I can correct the issues with my spine.
COST BREAKDOWN
Surgery - $12,000
Lodging and airfare - $1,500
Cost of Living Expenses While Out of Work - $1,750
After Care Support - $300
Physical Therapy - $400
Please share with your network to help me meet my goal!
I am deeply humbled by the ways you show up for me and will continue to be grateful for you, however you’re able to help.
Love, ben
