Purchasing an Ambulance

Donation protected
In the Mbale region of eastern Uganda, many communities are tucked deep into the hills and mountains. For thousands of people, reaching medical care in an emergency can take hours — or isn’t possible at all.

Expectant mothers in labour, children with high fevers, people suffering from accidents — all too often, they face life-threatening delays simply because there is no reliable way to get to a hospital.

That’s why PONT’s ambulance program exists. Locally built motorbike and tricycle ambulances are designed to handle the rough terrain. They can reach remote villages quickly, carrying a trained health worker alongside the patient.

Since 2010, PONT has supported the construction and operation of over 30 motorbike ambulances, 30 bicycle stretchers, and 90 mountain stretchers. These vehicles now make thousands of emergency journeys each year. We are trying to purchase one more ambulance to help towards this goal of saving more lives by giving access to primary healthcare.

And the impact is clear: the average cost of an ambulance trip is just £4. One in every ten journeys is life-saving — meaning that a £40 donation could save a life. And purchasing a new ambulance? That’s an investment that keeps saving lives for years.

These vehicles are more than transport. They are a vital link between rural communities and life-saving care.

Your support keeps them running — and helps make sure no one is left behind in a moment of need.

Will you help us keep these ambulances on the road?
