Brandon's Journey.
"You are braver than you believe and stronger than you seem".

On August 31, 2023, Brandon was found collapsed and unresponsive by his mother Marnie.
Brandon was transported to the Royal University hospital Saskatoon Trauma ward.
It was there that doctors diagnosed Brandon with a serious condition called rhabdomyolysis.
Brandon was treated with IV fluids to help flush out the muscle proteins and electrolytes.
Unfortunately, this treatment did not prevent dangerous heart rhythms and loss of kidney and liver functions. Brandon was then intubated and placed in ICU as he was now critical and required acute care.

While in ICU Doctors said the best course of action would be to perform a fasciotomy,
a procedure in which the fascia is cut to relieve pressure in the muscle compartment, it is
used to treat people with acute or chronic compartment syndrome.

Brandon’s mother had to make the decision for compassionate care and a DNR. It was the toughest and most heart wrenching decision for her to make as there was a possibility Brandon might not make it. Brandon’s family was called to be by his beside at this critical time.
Prayers, prayer groups and family members all bonded together to pray for a miracle
which was not to be! Brandon’s body was ravaged by the Rhabdo and his legs necrotized and died...
Our family was beside ourselves and devastated. The only thing left for doctors to do was to perform a bilateral amputation.

Brandon’s faith was put to the test as was the faith of his family. A catholic priest was brought in to anoint his body and we prayed for his soul. The priest whispered, “you need to accept this”.
Brandon was then wheeled to surgery where the outcome would leave his life and body permanently altered forever. It was hard to believe and grasp that this was happening to our Brandon.

This young man has endured so much in his short 28 soon to be 29 years of life in this world.
Not only is he going to be a double amputee but 7 years ago Brandon was diagnosed with
Schizophrenia and high functioning autism. Triple whammy is what we were all thinking.
To top it off, the whole 4 and half weeks in ICU Brandon was unresponsive and unconscious.
So, Brandon was going to be waking up not knowing what had happened, and that his legs would be gone.

Brandon came to realization that his legs had been amputated several days after surgery. He had endured 6 blood transfusions, a fasciotomy, dialysis, MRI's and dozens of blood tests.
He survived it all. He quickly came to terms with the fact that his legs are gone and set
goals to relearn all the new skills as an amputee. The biggest goal is to get prosthetic legs.

Brandon said he is going to go home as soon as he can to have a home cooked meal and
a descent shower.
Brandon said he doesn't feel sorry for himself and wishes everyone to be happy, positive, and upbeat while in his presence

Brandon will need to have numerous expensive alterations done on the family home for him to be able to go home and be safe. This is running up expenses very fast for his mom and Dad. The family are asking for donations to assist with the modifications to the family home. If you can, donate then please do.

"our family did receive a miracle... Brandon is still here with us".
