The Mt. Si High School Special Ed Life Skills and Transition classes are trying to achieve the trip of a lifetime– a visit to Disneyland! Help Britney raise enough money so that she can go!
The challenges that these teens and young adults face can make travel very difficult. Several have never been able to leave the local area due to health restrictions, complications and other travel barriers. But now, they have an opportunity to experience this adventure with one-on-one support that include teachers, nurses, specialists and chaperones. This trip is about more than simply going to Disneyland; it is an opportunity to learn some very valuable life skills. Here are just a few of the skills and behaviors they will be working on:
Cognitive Skills : planning, packing, time management and most important, utilizing their monetary skills in the real world. This trip will reinforce the positive rewards that they are able to receive, when they make good choices.
Coping Skills: experiencing a brand new environment, overcoming fears, learning patience, and learning to deal with the crowds of people, lights, and loud noises.
This trip will reinforce the rewards that they are able to receive when they are asked to transition, from one place to another.
This is the first time the school district has approved of such a trip for these special students. Please donate so that Britney will be able to go!
