Help Save This Injured Pup's Life

Update From Victoria:
1/31/2025
It’s been overwhelming to receive so much love and support for Louis. With the generosity, love and care of you all here, local rescues and animal care orgs, neighbors, and friends - Louis was able to get medical attention and had surgery on Friday for his dislocated hip. He was discharged yesterday and is home with me now. I will care for him over the next couple of weeks but starting 2/10 I will be out of the country and I need to find someone that can care for him during this time of healing. Louis will require a good amount of attention as he will not be able to walk for at least 4 weeks. If you are interested in fostering him for between 2/10-3/4, please email me at mailto:[email redacted].

“Whenever I feel helpless
in this overwhelming world

I become a helper
oh, oh
my love

On the days
when it feels like
I have no power

I serve others

You see,
whenever I wash
he world’s feet

My hands
immediately
stop shaking”

This resonated with me, and I know you all have similar sentiments ❤️

As for the money that you have all generously donated -
This money is will be used to support Louis’ care over the next couple of months. I was supposed to be moving out of my current home at the end of the month ahead of my travels, but to care for Louis (which included driving to multiple vets and urgent care facilities, staying home with him, sleeping with him on the floor in my living room, making many calls to rescue orgs), I delayed my move and extended my lease by two weeks. I’ve found a subleaser to take over my place mid Feb, so I plan to take from this pool of funds to support the extra days on the lease between the 10th and their move in date (no more than $500) and reserve $500 for supplies for Louis including medications, as well as any follow up medical care and attention. The remaining funds will go directly to STAR rescue.

Thank you all again for your support. May we continue to shine the light for one another into the darkness.
Hi everyone. Last night Victoria was driving home and found a small dog in the middle of the road who had been hit by a car. Animal Control was closed and the Richmond PD was present and filed a report, but said there was nothing they could do since animal control was closed. She brought him home for the night to care for him.

When calling around various shelters and rescues in this morning, we found the only option would be to surrender the dog to the county which puts him into an over-filled and under-resourced system, which is not only traumatic but there is also a high risk for being euthanized given that injured and sick dogs are more costly to care for. We are hoping to save him from this process and get him the medical care he needs and fostering him until his owners are located or he has a forever home.

We were able to get X-rays today (and we are SO grateful for the local rescues that helped to make this happen) and know now that he has a dislocated hip, as well as fractures in the pelvis, right hip socket, as well as right leg. Surgery for the dislocated hip is recommended within 5-7 days otherwise we risk amputation. We are already working with the rescueseabout supporting the medical procedure but nothing is guaranteed. He is back at her home now, and we are hoping that he can go into surgery tomorrow.
