TLDR; With Trump's potential return to the Presidency, it's critical we act now to update 'F*** Your Hair'. Support our mission to bring vital updates to this acclaimed film, ensuring our collective voice of resistance and hope reaches further. Help us tell this compelling story in this crucial moment so that we can better inform, inspire, and ignite change through the power of storytelling and our collective bold choices.

Hi! Thank you for coming to our page. My name is Jason Polevoi, and I’m a documentary filmmaker based in Chicago, Illinois. In 2018, my producing partners and I released our first film, F*** Your Hair. It was a 38-minute documentary about Chicago’s 5 Rabbit Cervecería and their wildly popular Anti-Trump protest beer Chinga Tu Pelo.

Racing against the clock, we swiftly completed the film in under a year, driven by the pressing need to amplify a crucial message before the midterm elections. The urgency was palpable: to showcase how a single, bold act of defiance could ignite a widespread social movement, especially at such a critical juncture in our political landscape. Upon its release, the film not only received widespread critical acclaim but also resonated deeply across international borders, from screenings at prestigious festivals in the U.S. to New Zealand. Esteemed publications like the New Yorker, Esquire, Huff Post, and the Chicago Tribune heralded its significance, while NPR's Tim Mak spotlighted it on Weekend Edition. The University of California San Diego recognized its educational value, incorporating it into their curriculum for a course on Beer in the Urban Economy.

The rapid turnaround and the film's immediate impact underscore the vital importance of timely storytelling in shaping public discourse and inspiring action.

Yet, the journey of our film faced unforeseen challenges. Within a year of its celebrated debut on Amazon Prime, where it boasted a flawless 5-star rating, our documentary was abruptly removed, vanishing without a trace. Despite persistent inquiries, the response from Amazon was cryptic at best, suggesting the film did not align with their "customer quality content expectations."
Concurrently, a suspicious surge of one-star reviews appeared on IMDB, hinting at a coordinated effort to undermine the film and the brewery's bold message. This apparent astroturfing campaign seemed a deliberate attempt to muffle our call for social change, a stark reminder of the obstacles facing voices of dissent.

In light of these challenges, we pivoted to Vimeo On Demand; however, the film just hasn’t seen the exposure we believe it deserves. And now, with the current political landscape marked by Donald Trump's potential return to the presidential fray, we need your help. Our aim is not only to update the story and fill in the gaps for the brewery and what has happened to them but also to broaden the documentary's reach, a venture that, while necessary, requires financial investment.

By contributing to this campaign, you will be doing three things:
1. Ensuring the diverse group of artists that work on the post-production of the film are paid a living wage.
2. Ensuring the filmmakers are able to devote time, RIGHT NOW, to finishing and delivering an impactful product.
3. Allowing us to bring the new and improved F*** Your Hair to audiences across the country (...and world?!) via online streaming, internationally recognized film festivals, and educational platforms.

Any donation amount is greatly appreciated but for those of you able to donate $200 or more (and provide an email address)- you'll be invited to an in-person premiere in Chicago if we can make this happen.

With your help, we can bring this film full circle and share the message with a whole new audience ready for a message of love and acceptance, inspired by the bravery of this country’s Latin-American immigrants and determined to take on the fascism that threatens our way of life.
