Help save Mogwai

Hi, my name is Nick and we’re here to save our cat Mogwai. She is battling a rare and life-threatening case of anemia (low red blood cell count) that is unlike anything our vet has seen before. Now, we’re in a race against time to figure out what’s causing it, how it can be treated, and to be honest, how we can continue to pay for the medical work she needs to give her the best chance of survival.

I took Mogwai into the vet for what I thought was a common cold about 3 weeks ago. I was shocked when they told me she had an extremely high fever and would need to stay overnight. Things progressed quickly from there. That evening, the vet called to tell me that Mogwai had a severe case of anemia and needed an accelerated blood transfusion to save her life. We stayed up all night waiting to hear if she made it. It was honestly the worst night of my life.

Since that night, she has undergone 3 more transfusions, additional hospital stays, and every single test imaginable. So far, everything has come back negative - bacterial, viral, FIV, FIP, leukemia, and now cancer. The likeliest candidate at this point is a rare autoimmune disease attacking her red blood cells. So far, we have spent over $10,000, and can expect to double that in the coming months if we have any chance at saving her. For now, we are in need of your support if we want to continue the testing, treatment, and care she needs to survive.

If this sounds like an insane amount of money, believe me, we are shocked by the expense, too. But she’s a member of our family and we’re all in on saving her life. We rescued Mogwai and her brother Gremlin as kittens in early 2020, and she has been a constant light in our lives ever since. She helped us get through Covid, she laid on my wife’s belly every day throughout her pregnancy, and now she sleeps with a watchful eye next to our baby - her little brother - every night.
