On Thanksgiving Robyn was taken to the ER suffering from migraines. With testing that they performed at the hospital they realized that her blood pressure was at stroke level. They were able to get the blood pressure down and treat the migraines with medication and she was released. On Friday she was taken back to the hospital complaining about blurred vision. By this time the damage had already been done. She lost 70-80% of her vision and was advised to seek out an ophthalmologist and a neurologist for further treatment.
On 11/30 we went to an Opthalmologist where she had several tests ran and the doctor informed us that her optic nerves had hemorrhaged. He then stated that her case was the worst case he had seen. He then scheduled her for a full MRI and referred her to a Neuro-Opthalmologist.
On 12/1 she saw the Neuro-Opthalmologist, he looked at the MRI, as well as all the additional tests that had been ran and diagnosed her with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. What that means is that Robyn's body over produces spinal fluid. This causes extreme pressure in her head and caused her optic nerves to hemorrhage. This disease mimics brain tumors, she has all the symptoms of brain tumors but thankfully there are none. There is no cure, This is something that she will deal with for the rest of her life. It is treatable and manageable.
She had her first eye surgery on 12/4 and is scheduled for her second one on 12/9. She has already had a lumbar puncture and will get more in the future to relieve pressure due to her body over producing spinal fluid. Her doctor is confident that he can regain most of her vision. This will take time and more treatment.
Throughout this ordeal she has maintained high spirits.
She has medical insurance, however a lot of what is needed is not covered. She is paying out of pocket expenses for her medical treatment and all her personal expenses. We are hoping to raise funds to help out with her medical expenses. We would be very grateful for any help and prayers that you can offer us.
Thank you,
