Help Save Brody – Our Loving 12-Year-Old Companion Needs You

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted animal lovers,

This is the hardest thing we’ve ever had to write. Our beloved Brody, a beautiful 12-year-old Portuguese Water Dog, has been our best friend, our family, and our joy. For over a year, we have been fighting alongside him through an excruciating battle with a severe ear infection—one that no treatment seemed to fully cure.

Brody’s infection involved four different aggressive bacteria, all resistant to antibiotics. We tried everything—countless treatments, specialist visits, and thousands of dollars in vet bills—to give him relief. After 12 long months, we finally saw hope. For the first time in over a year, Brody was his happy, playful self again. We thought we had won.

Then, heartbreak struck.

On Sunday, Brody suddenly collapsed. He lost the ability to walk. The infection had caused so much damage to his inner ear that his balance was completely destroyed. Now, every time he tries to move, he falls. He still wants to play, still wags his tail, still tries to be the Brody we know and love—but his body won’t let him.

Our vet first suggested surgery to remove his ear, but at 12 years old, the pain and risks are just too high. And even then, there is no guarantee it would work. Instead, there is a tiny chance that, with intense antibiotic treatment, hospital care, and medications to support his balance, Brody might be able to walk again.

We want to give him that chance. But we can’t do it alone.

Rachel and I have already maxed out a credit card trying to save him. We’ve spent everything we can. But Brody is our family, and we refuse to give up on him without trying. He’s still fighting. We have to fight with him.

Here’s what we need:

* Extended hospitalization to stabilize him

* Specialized medications and balance support

* Intensive antibiotic treatment to continue fighting the infection

* Ongoing care once he’s home

We don’t want to make this choice based on money. We don’t want to put him to sleep when there’s still hope. But we need help.
