*** PLEASE SEE UPDATES FOR SASHA’S PROGRESS ***
*** OUR BIGGEST NEED IS CONTINUED FUNDING FOR HER CARE ***
Sasha and Jimmy are our unhoused neighbors. Sasha is a young pit bull. On July 19th, she was hit by two cars that immediately sped away from the scene. Jimmy rushed Sasha to the local animal ER and was turned away – if he didn’t have the funds to get her assessed, they offered to euthanize her on the spot or send Jimmy and Sasha away with just a few sample pain meds. Sasha was clearly in a lot of pain, but Jimmy refused to give up on her. He rushed her to a second animal ER and was met with the same response. We happened to see Jimmy and Sasha later that day after he had been caring for her in almost 90 degree heat for 12 hours. When we arrived, Jimmy was fanning Sasha and attempting to keep flies from bothering her. She could not move at all and Jimmy had run out of options. Together, we took Sasha to a 3rd animal ER (TrueCare for Pets) and she was finally fully assessed.
Sasha is currently at TrueCare and needs surgery immediately. She has multiple pelvic fractures and requires a 24-hour nurse at her side. The surgery necessary to ensure her survival costs upwards of $12,000, with all ER fees. She also faces a 2-month recovery, but will be able to regain full function of her body, pending no further complications.
Jimmy has asked that his community do whatever possible to help save Sasha. He feels the burden of not being able to help in this moment of emergency. Sasha does not need to lose her life, nor should she over a lack of funds and assistance. Please consider helping in any way you can so we can save this amazing pup.
Here are some ways to help:
- FOSTER: Sasha needs a home where she can rehabilitate after surgery. This is at least a 2-month commitment, starting as soon as possible.
- FINANCE: We have covered Sasha's initial costs of over $3000 with a loan. She has $12,000 minimum more to go. Anything, and we truly mean anything, will help us provide for Sasha.
- SPEAK OUT: This type of treatment of unhoused pets is rampant everywhere, and especially in Los Angeles. Post about this, talk about this, send this story to your friends and family, and call local clinics to ask for better treatment or funding options.
