Kassy’s Memorial Campaign

December 23, 2015 would forever change our lives.  My family suffered an unimaginable and heartbreaking loss when my sweet and only younger sister, Kassandra passed away suddenly after a tragic accident.

Kassy’s Story:

On November 13, 2002 at 11:59pm my little sister was brought into this world. She would be the last child my parents would have after my mother suffered a miscarriage in 1999. She completed our beautiful little family of five. Growing up, you could describe my sister as an incredibly curious, humble, and loving person. She was the kind of person that filled the room with her laughter and loved without end. It was not only at home, she was an angel to everyone she encountered. She was my mother’s loyal companion, attending every dance rehearsal I had and soccer game my brother played. Kassy was our number one fan, always present, cheering us on from the sidelines even when no one else would cheer.  She supported my brother and I, regardless of the occasion. She began to follow my footsteps at a very young age; painting every chance she got, feeding her imagination as she read books and more books, and learning dance after dance with the rest of her time. Everyone around her could see how much she treasured dance, and how beautifully she glided across the room with such ease. Her passion for such activities left a room filled with countless medals and trophies from school and dance competitions in which she won time after time. At the end of her 6th grade school year she decided to reach out even further and tried out for an officer position for the Jr. Jewelette’s dance team at Lorenzo De Zavala Middle School. I still remember the day she called and told me she had earned the Co-Captain position for the 2015-2016 school year, she was so happy when she gave me the news, a moment forever engraved in my mind. Not only did she excel at school, dance, reading and painting but was also continuously growing in her faith. She was baptized in July 2015, was enrolled in multiple bible study courses and also participated in a number of church events. The last Saturday she spent with us, she spent it running a 5K to raise funds for our church, cheering everyone on as they passed the finish line. We had made so many plans for the holidays, all of which were never completed. We had bought matching sweaters to take a family Christmas photo and had planned to take all her teddy bears to be donated to local hospitals for kids that were sick, but we never got to. My sister always lived a selfless life, constantly putting others before her and teaching those around her about God’s love. She did so much with the short 13 years of life she was given on this earth. This has been the absolute hardest thing that we, as a family, have ever had to undergo.  I hope you can find it in your heart to help my classmates and I raise funds to create something beautiful in her honor.

The Project:

With the necessary funds, we will be sponsoring a girls’ room in Kassy’s honor at the Valley Haven Emergency Children’s Shelter in Harlingen, TX (http://www.valleyhaveninc.org). Valley Haven is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter to children who have been removed from their home from Child Protective Services because of abuse and neglect. This shelter provides them with a bed and all the necessary resources to feel safe and loved until a home is located for them. This facility will have a total of 32 beds. We will be sponsoring one room that will provide four girls a comfortable and secure place to sleep. This room will cost approximately $6,000. All the additional funds if collected will be donated to decorate the room and whatever else the shelter may need. The room will be equipped with four beds, four armoires, and four nightstands. After the room is completely built and furniture is in place, we will be able to decorate the room the way Kassy would have wanted her own room to be decorated. I hope you can be a part of this community project we are doing in my sweet sister’s name. We need your support deeply. Thank you for taking the time to read about my sister and the project we have chosen to honor her with, it is greatly appreciated. May God bless each of you always. Thank you.
