Hi! My name is Alexis and I am raising funds on behalf of my dear friend Sarah and her precious puppy who is currently hospitalized at OSU! She’s already out thousands of dollars for her care and the bills are continuing to add up as her poor babe is in their critical care ward.
Soka suffered a broken toe nail which Sarah promptly took her to the vet for. She was prescribed antibiotics and a pain reliever. After a few days, Soka starting have vision issues and a lot of stiffness in her head/neck. The vet recommended she come off the medication as she was having an allergic reaction.
Fast forward a few days (Sunday, March 3rd) she was not getting better and instead getting worse. Sarah took her to VEG (veterinary emergency group) who immediately referred her to OSU Veterinary Medicine for a “life or death” situation. They warned her that she might have to make the difficult decision to say her goodbyes that day.
OSU quickly determined that Soka is suffering from Tetanus, which in dogs, there’s no cure! She is currently on supportive care as they have to let the tetanus run its course and hope for the best.
In an effort to mitigate it getting worse, they’ve been able to administer an antitoxin (actually made for horses!) and have made the really difficult decision to ampute one of her toes as they think the broken nail area is where the issue began.
Sarah is looking at a lengthy and costly recovery road with Soka and as a fellow animal mama I know how tough that can be. I’m hoping that as a community we can rally together to help Soka get the care she needs at OSU to make a full recovery and hopefully remove some of the financial burden on her human family!
