Kendall's rebound from cancer fund
Donation protected
Hello we are the Mom and Sister to Kendall, (Grandmother and Aunt to Sadie and Jemima) and we are setting up this page to help Kendall as she recovers from cancer and get's up to speed with her professional life.
One of the worst things a family can hear is that someone they love has cancer. Our hearts broke when Kendall called us in June, from 3,500 km away, to say she had been diagnosed with aggressive invasive ductal breast cancer . Her treatment began at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, where she underwent four months of chemotherapy (from which she’s had a complete response!), a double lumpectomy and five weeks of daily radiation that she is now a week away from completing.
Kendall’s a single mom, and she’d left Banff for Toronto a year ago to begin a new life with her beautiful daughters. She chose Toronto to be close to schools when the time came for them to choose university. And – she also had a new project to pursue.
Then came the unthinkable news. Her diagnosis happened on the heels of other bad news. Kendall had to repay $24,750 in family allowance fees. Neither she, her lawyer nor her ex-husband were aware that she was not entitled to this after leaving Switzerland where the family lived for ten years.
Her savings were wiped out, and to make matters worse, her alimony was severely cut back (It's since ended). The news was shocking but Kendall was optimistic that the projects she was progressing with would eventually sustain the family. Her tech partners had just begun building the app and she believed her hard work and entrepreneurial spirit would carry her through. Like she does with everything, Kendall’s courage and positive attitude rose to the forefront. The cancer diagnosis and treatment merely slowed her down.
The good news now is that Kendall has come out the other side of her illness. She is well! That’s the great news to all of us who love her so. She and her daughters have gone through this year with so much courage – Kendall – ever the supportive and loving Mom – and Sadie and Jemima – both honour students despite the stress of their mother’s illness. Sadie, in grade 12, is preparing for film school and Jemima in grade 10 already has her sights on law school.
We’ve learned that Kendall needs support to offset the cost of living and for supplements needed for her health, for a short while, as she gets her start-up investor-ready and have set this page up to raise the $8000 she needs, as soon as possible, to help her keep moving forward.
These three are an astonishing example of rising above all challenges and against all odds, to be the best they can be. Please help us raise the funds Kendall now needs. Any amount you can give will make a big difference. If you’re unable to contribute a simple share on social media would be greatly appreciated.
For those who want to know more about Kendall’s project: It’s an app, called Culture Dock. She previously wrote Culture Smart!: Switzerland for the global series, Culture Smart (Kuperard, UK). This current project has the same motivation behind it, but Kendall has expanded upon it and made it relevant for today’s global traveller. At a time when cultural tourism is a growing megatrend, she is introducing a timely platform for people to share, learn and appreciate the ways and wonders of people and places the world over. The app will be marking its beginnings as a gift for Canada as Kendall will be providing the app for ImagiNation to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017. Kendall is also working on her third book; a sample can be read on her author’s website at kendallhunter.ca.
Thank-you. Carrie and Mystee.
