Michelle & Ian's Kidney Swap
Donation protected
Congratulations! It's a Kidney. That pretty much sums it up. Since the beginning, since before the beginning, I truly believe this place in time was intended. Long before I met Michelle, I had a compulsion to want to donate a kidney. Ever since I held a license, I have registered as an organ donor. So, in April of 2015 when Michelle went in to the ER with Pneumonia and came out with 16% kidney function (by the way that's bad), I KNEW I was going to be a match. Despite all odds I am a match. That is UNBELIEVABLE NEWS!
Now, the challenge, paying for it. Sure we have insurance but that only covers so much. Also, the surgery is in Kansas City (3 hours away). That means hotel costs for Ian while Michelle recovers. Then there will be 6 weeks of travel to Kansas City, 3 times a week, post transplant...THAT equals more travel and hotel expense...all things not covered by insurance. Further more there will be all the post transplant doctors visits and medications (times 2) which means those co-pays are sure to add up fast. Combine all that with lost work and wages and the squeeze is on.
Michelle and I want you to know that creating this page is INCREDIBLY difficult for both of us, since we prefer to try and 'make it on our own' financially. However, this is a required part of the approval process in order to move forward with transplant. Our transplant team wants us to know this is a necessary course of action to make sure we give this process every chance to succeed. We are taking care of things on our end....consolidating debt, trying to lower payments, paying things off and living a bit more frugally. Maybe we'll be able to handle a bulk of the financial strain this is sure to cause. We are committed to donate whatever money we don't use to the National Kidney Foundation .
So, here is the request. Please give! But it's not just about $$. If you are not in a position to donate money please give of your time. Share this link with as many of your friends and family as you can and be a champion for our cause. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!
