My name is Kelle Whalan. I am the founder and CEO of Manning Valley Indigenous Community support services in Taree, NSW.
We are a not-for-profit organisation assisting community members with life issues that need a little extra assistance, from housing to court support, DCJ restoration cases, health and education.
This fundraiser is critical for the company to keep the office we lease in Taree.
The real estate initially said that the owner agreed to us going into the suite with three months' rent (not to be paid upfront) but will be happy to put it onto the end of the 3-year lease.
LJ Hooker did not communicate this correctly to the owner, and now he is demanding that we come up with the $5500 by next Friday, or we are out.
As an NFP, we rely on Grants and tenders for our funding.
With the recent election, all grants were put on hold, and grants we had been promised and approved for, got cut.
We have been working alongside DCJ for 12 months (probono), and they have not offered to pay us or help.
As I am on leave, Zac Carter, the Executive officer and acting CEO, sent DCJ a bill for the work we have done for it to get shut down and told no.
Zac and I have been paying out of our pocket for the last 12 months to keep the office running.
Due to the grant situation, neither Zac nor I have been paid by the company, and we use any income we may get to pay the office bills.
Any donation, small or big, will help us keep the office going so we can continue to assist the community members.
