Jana Cummings has been a dear friend to Pat and me for over 20 years. Last May, she lost her husband, John, after a long and difficult battle with several illnesses, including cancer. For the past six years, John was in and out of the hospital and became disabled, unable to work. During this time, Jana did everything she could to support her household, running a nail salon business. Despite her hard work, she lost her retail business and now earns a modest income doing house calls for pedicures, leg massages, and nails for elderly women. However, Jana is facing a number of issues with her own health, including asthma, Stage 3 kidney disease and diastolic heart failure, limiting her work to only a few hours a week. Her only other support is John's social security check.

At 77 years old, Jana is facing significant financial challenges. She owns her home, but the constant maintenance and repairs have become impossible for her to manage alone. Jana plans to put her house on the market, but before she can do so, she needs to address a wet basement with mold, make physical repairs to doors and walls, repaint, and take care of other essential fixes. In addition, her car requires repairs, and she owes back taxes. The town is threatening a lien against her property, which would prevent her from selling the house and moving forward.

Jana's church community has supported her through John's illness, but her needs now are beyond what they can provide. We are hoping to raise funds to help Jana make the necessary repairs, pay off her back taxes, and give her the chance to sell her home and purchase a trailer home with the proceeds.
