Floods in Sindh and Pakistan
A humanitarian tragedy is unfolding in Sindh. The scale is unprecedented in
thousand’s years of its history
Fundraiser: Dr. Rubina Shaikh, Chairperson of the World Sindhi Congress
The deadly monsoon rains have flooded vast areas of Pakistan in Sindh, Balochistan, South Punjab and Pakhtunkhwa.
Sindh is the worst hit, bearing 70% of the impact and loss.
Sindh, on average, has seen more than 500% of the average rain and some areas, more than 900% of average rain.
More than 20 million are impacted, displaced, and on the roads. Almost 1000 people are dead.
More than a million homes have been damaged or destroyed. Hundreds of thousands of cattle were killed. Thousands of villages were wiped out from the earth. Millions of acres of crops were destroyed.
Sadly, the response of the government is not up to the scale. Civil society, individuals and organizations are doing commendable work and facing a daunting challenge with patience and persistence. This is just the beginning of the suffering. The effects of these floods are predicted to be severe and for a long time. So a sustained and planned pace is needed to be more effective for the relief and rehabilitation
of millions of people in need.
Let us move ahead with all and every effort. We need your contribution and support to help our people drowned and facing one of the worst humanitarian crises of our times.
