Help Kelvin Fight Cancer

Donation protected

This year has presented a whirlwind of overwhelming events for all of us, to say the very least. We have all had our fair share of triumphs and tribulations, loses and gains. And we have all witnessed what the power of loving communities, coming together in solidarity to help one another in times of need can do. It is beautiful and it is powerful. And so, with the heaviest of hearts and tears welled up in my eyes, I write this on behalf of my amazing father, Kelvin Nivens. This year has sadly presented him with yet another tragic hit.

A few weeks ago, in early December, my father was diagnosed with cancer. This is not his first dance with cancer, as he battled and defeated the disease after a year long bout with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2012. Now here we are, almost 9 years later and the cancer has returned to a different area of his body. To say that we are all absolutely devastated by this diagnosis, is an understatement. But together, we remain strong and in good faith.

He is currently undergoing diagnostic work to determine the extent of the spread. After determining, we will decide on an appropriate course of treatment. So for now, we wait. We wait for more biopsy’s, more scans, more answers. And with all of this comes more and more medical bills.

The financial torment that this year has brought on for most of us has wreaked havoc on so many of our favorite small local businesses. This especially hits home for my dad. In august, he was unfortunately and unexpectedly forced to close the doors of his popular Santa Cruz gym, CrossFit Kel-Core. Another devastating blow that this year has brought. This was painful for him, but with the end of one chapter marks the beginning of another. With his everlasting commitment and passion for his longstanding clients, he didn’t let this loss break him. By the end of August he had already launched Kel-Core Training Systems, online training services and a homemade gym set up at their home for Covid-safe private training sessions. But sadly just a few months later, they are now both facing massive and unexpected medical bills. For two people who give so much for their community and the ones they love, this is a great opportunity to give back in their time of need.

Kelvin is truly a one of a kind human being. To know him is to love him. There are so many people whose lives that he has touched and improved in so many positive ways along his journey. He is a devoted and respected CrossFit trainer in Santa Cruz, California. Fitness and health are his life. He has an undeniable love and passion for his work as a coach, teacher, speaker, trainer and mentor. He carries with pride, a deeply rooted commitment to providing his family and community with the upmost physical, mental and spiritual health. His work and impact over the years is inspirational and truly praiseworthy. He gives so much to others and now, he is in need of our help and support more than ever.

This will be a long road of recovery for my Dad. Until we know the severity of what we are dealing with, we won’t know the extent of the expanding cost. The money raised from this GoFundMe will go towards medical bills, rent, household bills, etc. More updates to come.

Stay Kel-Core Strong for Kelvin!

Thank you to all!

I hope that everyone has safe, healthy and happy holidays! Xx
