Future projects for wemotaci and other communities

Hey gang! I’m back again with some amazing news!

Through my first donation run with my organization kokom donations, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many different organizations and communities. That being said, The band here in wemotaci would like to continue working with kokom donations!

The idea is that we want to build a traditional cabin here in wemotaci to store our Donations along with women’s hygiene products, diapers, just the necessities. And along with that build a garden with traditional plants, with the guidance of elders.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this or not but I don’t care, this is my baby.

The elementary school here in Wakefield has reached out to me in hopes to collaborate with the youth in the community to help raise funds and donations!

My plan was to have a workshop based program that engages each grade with what their raising funds for or what their gaining donations for based on things that matter to the kids at their age level. This way the youth can have a hands on experience to what and why we are helping communities like wemotaci.

This run has taught me a lot, on what I need to focus on personally and with kokom donations.

I’d like to buy a van so I can provide the community with a steady flow of diapers and food as the cost of these things are expensive out here in the brush.

I would also like to raise funds so I can build wemotaci and surrounding communities self sustaining gardens and help reconnect those lost back with the land.

Also wapikoni mobile has been an amazing support when I need to use a camera for a project they allow me to borrow one on contract. The difficulties I face with this is that wapikoni is based in Montréal and my projects I want to work with are here in Wakefield so the back and forth is getting costly.

I’d like to raise funds to buy a a camera so I can produce and show Wakefield and other communities what native communities are actually like, I want to show the beauty and the respect, the art that is so beautiful, the stories behind it, everything. I think this will help reconnect those who have faced hard times reconnecting with their culture.

I know this is is going to work one way or another, this is my first avenue as I have to explore others I’m the near future!

Thank you for your time and consideration.
