Marquis Nickerson is an aspiring attorney with dreams to become a federal prosecutor or director for the FBI.  He has achieved academic success since elementary school. To many of his family members, he is known as the "Politician", discovering early his love to meet new people, debate, and argue his point of view constructively.

Marquis has never been afraid to receive constructive criticism. He consistently has shown dedication to achieving his goals while maintaining a competitive spirit for success. In developing his love for speech, writing, and acting, Marquis was enrolled in professional acting classes for a semester during his 8th grade year. He participated in a Youth for Christ Oratorical Contest that year, placing 2nd in the teenage youth division representing Eastside Forney Church of Christ.

Marquis served as Treasurer for his 9th Grade Student Council. He found his love for law during his 9th grade year through his former teacher, the late Mr. Peter Myers, who inspired him to participate in Mock Trial at Crandall High School.  Mr. Myers helped provide the building blocks that set Marquis on his path and dedication towards law. Marquis was accepted into DallasISD Townview Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet for 10th Grade, and under Mr. Gonzalez and Mr. Seale tutelage, became one of the top Mock Trial Attorneys in the Nation.

During his 10th, 11th, and Senior year, Marquis and his team earned 2nd in district for Youth and Government, 2nd in State for Youth for Government, and 2nd in the U.S for Youth and Government at Nationals. He earned the National Outstanding Attorney Award for YMCA. Their Mock Trial team has earned 2x District Champion for State Bar, 2x State Finalist for State Bar, and he has earned "Top Attorney Nominee 4x for State Bar.  Marquis has earned a host of awards and academic recognition as evident through his resume.

Marquis top 5 schools for acceptance are SMU, Depaul University, TCU, University of Illinois Chicago, and St. Johns University. He has currently received awards for each of these 5 schools ranging from $22k to $42K. Marquis is currently seeking to attend SMU,  where he is seeking to pursue working with their Mock Trial team. Tuition, room and board for SMU totals $79k. Marquis currently has a shortfall of $33K( $16k for tuition, $17k for room and board).

(Update 5-21-20)

Marquis had original plans to attend SMU; however we are proud to announce that Marquis has applied to and been accepted to the prestigious private institution of Furman University (Home of the Paladins) in South Carolina for the 2020-21 school year. Furman University is one of the top schools in the nation, ranking 46 in liberal arts colleges. Marquis will pursue a Bachelors degree in Political Science and International Studies. Furman provided a very competitive financial aid package, which will only require an out of pocket of $5000 per semester vs SMU $14,000 per semester. We are pleased and excited for Marquis to now take the journey as a Paladin to South Carolina for fall 2020!!

We are actively seeking each of your assistance to helping Marquis realize a dream. For years, he has worked hard up on the belief that hard work, the Will of God, and faith will guide his steps.  Each school was specifically chosen towards his longterm goal to get accepted into Harvard Law in pursuit of his dream to become a federal prosecutor. He has been working on scholarships, and still are awaiting results while continuing to actively apply.

These funds will be needed by end of August 2020. Thank each of you for taking the time to read and consider this request. Thank each of you for your interest and investment into an aspiring attorney. Please see his full resume attached:
