Futch Plarning at New York Fashion Week!

Hello all!

I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of Molly Thayer, the artist behind Futch Plarning design studio. Molly’s collection, Dapper in Detritus: A Love Letter to Plarn Ecologies, has been accepted to New York Fashion Week! This collection features gender-euphoric garments made from creatively transformed fibrous recycled materials. The collection calls for an abundant circular economy/ecology wherein the infinite creative potential of waste resources is celebrated as use for radical community forming and accessible maker education.

As Futch Plarning is a one-fellow small business, this is an amazing opportunity for Molly to present their work and reach a broader audience. Molly’s work is uniquely innovative, playful, queer, ecological, radical, and rooted in community, and the benefits that this opportunity presents will surely ripple outwards. Molly’s work is dedicated to community survival and joy, and their art is deeply needed amidst the apocalypse.

There are overhead costs to this event. The reduced admission fee is $850 dollars plus $250 for edited video documentation. Artists have to also fund the necessary compensation for their small backstage team and themselves day of the show, not to mention the countless hours of unpaid time of designing, creating, editing, and preparing for the show! I am asking for your support to help get Molly to New York Fashion Week! They are hesitant to crowdfund, but I believe this is such a well-earned accomplishment, and I would love to see their community support them.
