Further Notice - Feature Film

Further Notice is a feature film about an American who's stopped believing he belongs anywhere and an immigrant who refuses to stop believing she does. Written and directed by Brazilian-American filmmaker Thales Corrêa, the film centers Latino leads in their own love story in a genre that rarely makes room for them.

THE PITCH, IN ONE BREATH
A bitter Airbnb host spirals out of control when a young Brazilian woman comes to stay… and never leaves.

That's the logline. The longer version is that we're making a romantic comedy about a man who's given up on his own country and a woman who's fighting to stay in it, and who figure out - reluctantly and mostly against their will - that they might belong to each other.

It's a comedy first. The kind where two anxious people talk over each other about nothing until suddenly they're talking about everything. But the people in it look and sound like the people I actually know. And right now, that alone feels worth fighting for.

THE STORY
After getting all of his wealth wiped out, Mando (Jon Huertas), a cynical ex-trader, lives off renting his Los Angeles loft on Airbnb, secretly staying hidden inside it, timing his movements to avoid every guest. His system runs flawlessly until Bia (Lorena Comparato), a young Brazilian woman who's lost her job and visa, arrives with a smile, a suitcase, and no plans to leave.

What starts as a standoff between a control freak and a professional improviser spirals into chaos when Mando discovers her undocumented status. Determined to "fix" the situation, he hatches a ridiculous plan to find her a husband, only to realize he's the one falling for her.

Along the way, they're joined by Derek (Joey Graceffa), Mando's kind-hearted young friend who gets roped into the scheme and finds his own unexpected courage along the way.

As the couple navigate broken plumbing, ex-wife drama, and late-night existential debates, Mando and Bia must decide whether love itself is worth the risk of exposure.

WHY THIS FILM MATTERS NOW

Latinos make up about 20% of the U.S. population and get roughly 5% of speaking roles in American film. When we do show up on screen, we're usually the villain or the victim, almost never the guy rewriting a text message for forty minutes before he sends it.

Further Notice is a Los Angeles story in a way that matters. The Airbnb economy, the immigrant labor that holds this city together, the specific kind of loneliness of a place built for driving alone, that's the air Mando and Bia breathe. LA has had a brutal few years: the strikes, the fires, a production drain that's gutted indie filmmaking here. We want to make this film in the city that raised it, with crews who actually live here, at a moment when that's getting harder by the month.

THE CAST

  • JON HUERTAS (Mando | Producer)

Puerto Rican-American actor, director, and producer best known for his role as Miguel on NBC's This Is Us and Detective Esposito on ABC's Castle. A U.S. Air Force veteran and member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Jon has directed episodes of The Rookie and Tracker. Off screen, he is a passionate advocate for Latino representation and social justice, a commitment that made him the only person we ever imagined playing Mando. Watch Jon's full video pitch here: https://youtu.be/JrpX2ProICA

  • LORENA COMPARATO (Bia | Producer)

One of Brazil's most exciting young actresses recognized for her versatility across global film and television. She stars in Impuros on Hulu and Rensga Hits! on Globoplay, and has appeared in projects for Disney+, Netflix, and Amazon. A multi-award-winning performer and co-founder of Cia de 4, Lorena brings the kind of ferocity and humor that Bia was written for.

  • JOEY GRACEFFA (Derek)

Actor, author, and creator with a career spanning television, publishing, and digital media. Joey starred in and produced Escape the Night , one of YouTube's longest-running premium series, which earned multiple Streamy Awards across its run. His books have landed on the New York Times bestseller list. Further Notice is his first dramatic feature role, and Derek is exactly the kind of quietly brave character he was built to play.

JOIN US
Our cast and crew already signed on because they believe in this story — not for a paycheck, but because some films you just have to make. We're hoping you feel the same. Every dollar raised here goes straight to production: locations, equipment, and the post-production work that turns a good script into a film festivals actually want to program.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
Every donor, regardless of amount, will be acknowledged in the film's end credits as part of our Special Thanks. You'll also receive a link to stream Further Notice online when the film is released digitally, delivered through a GoFundMe update. And you'll be following the journey from day one, behind-the-scenes content, production updates, and festival news shared on our Instagram (@furthernotice.film) and through campaign updates here.

WHERE WE ARE, AND WHAT YOUR DONATION CLOSES
We didn't start from zero. Partial financing is already secured. This film is backed by the same team behind an Emmy FYC series (Poly People), a Warner Bros./NFMLA grant-winning short (Doggy Bank), an award-winning feature (Bathroom Stalls & Parking Lots), and shorts that have played Cannes.
Our goal of $153,000 covers the finishing fund, the gap between where we are and a completed film. It will be distributed as follows:

  • Production — experienced department heads, proper LA locations, the camera and lighting package
  • Post-production — editorial, sound, color, score
  • Marketing & Festival submissions — the path that gets this film in front of the audiences we made it for.

TIMELINE FOR COMPLETION
We expect to begin principal photography in Los Angeles in summer 2026. Post-production - editing, sound, color, and score - will carry through fall 2026. During that time we'll also be producing the trailer. Festival submissions begin late 2026, with a premiere targeted for 2027.

GET IN TOUCH
If you're moved by this story and want to support in a bigger or different way than a donation through this page, whether that's a larger contribution, an in-kind gift, a professional skill you can offer, or just a conversation about the project, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out to us directly by using the Contact button at the bottom of the page, next to the WeTheLatin logo. We'd love to talk about how to make your contribution count.

Can't donate? Here's what actually helps
Share the campaign. Tell one person. Follow us on Instagram (@furthernotice.film) and leave a comment, the algorithm notices, and we notice too. If you know someone who'd love this film, send it their way. Word of mouth is the only marketing indie films really have, and it works.

A note on fees
GoFundMe charges a small processing fee on each donation, and they'll ask if you want to leave them a tip. The tip is optional and goes to GoFundMe, not to us. Please don't feel obligated.
