Furry living in their car - Emergency RV Fund
Don protégé
Hi, my name is Uverage, and I've been living in my car since February. Over time, I've had no choice but to modify the inside to be more livable while looking for work. My immediate goal is to buy an RV a friend of mine is selling, but I need to produce a down payment in order to buy it off him.
Why I need your help
Recently, A tax bill has come due for my friend related to his mortgage, and he is *highly* motivated to sell the RV. If I can't come up with the down payment in time, or at least some progress towards getting it. Within the next week, he'll have to sell it on the open market and I'll lose my chance.
Why an RV?
When I separated from my spouse in December, my friend gave me a place to stay for a few weeks, and I couch-surfed with another, but by February I started living in my car. It's a 2014 Toyota Corolla that I paid off a year ago when times were better for me. During all this, I volunteered as an executive for the Vancoufur Furry Convention in March, and did my best to not let my decaying life circumstances impact the commitments I made to others.
I've been modifying the inside to be more livable, but it was always a temporary solution. I've been working on myself in the last few months, figuring out what I want from life.
I'm an aspiring hobbyist and creator, but without a proper workspace, I'm trapped. I wake up with a sore back every day from sleeping on a bed made of a car seat and suitcases. I need a space I can call my own, that isn't just renting from someone else.
Living in my car has a lot of challenges that have impacted my mental health and ability to earn a living. I have to rely on finding an electrical outlet every day to recharge the battery for my CPAP machine that I need to breathe due to sleep apnea. I've covered the windows in corrugated plastic for privacy in order to feel safe, but I life is still unstable when you're one tow away from losing everything.
Finding parking in metro Vancouver in order to have a place to sleep means I'm never sure where I'll be each night.
Having to constantly pack and unpack my car in order to sleep and then work Instacart every day is exhausting. Being able to have all my possessions in one place would help me be whole.
Why this RV in particular?
It's a 1995 Ford Joyco that has enough space for me to have living space and actually have a bed that is more than a sleeping bag on top of suitcases.
My friend has used this RV himself last summer on a camping trip with his family, so I know the engine is reliable, and has shown me the inside, so I know it's in decent shape.
He wanted 19K for it, but is willing to sell it to me for 15K as long as the down payment is large enough to cover the tax bill he needs to pay, which is 6K.
But if I'm not able to show an ability to produce the down payment he needs, he'll have to sell it on the market and I'll lose my chance to get a really good deal on a home.
How You Can Help
Donate: Any contribution you can make toward helping me pay the down payment will be invaluable in helping me get this place.
Share: If you can’t donate, sharing this page with others who care about helping would mean the world.
It's been a rough journey, I've been doing the best I can, but I need a more permanent solution. This RV will allow me to not just survive, but at least have the bare essentials.
I know life is hard for many right now, and I wouldn’t be asking if I thought I could do this on my own. Thank you for reading, for believing in me, and for helping me get back on my feet.
