I am Dr. Amadou Niang. I live in Sandy, Utah. Dr. Mohomodou Boncana was a close friend, or
I may even say a brother to me. We met about
40 years ago when we both attended a middle
school teacher education program in Mali, West Africa. He had lost his father as a child and had
become the breadwinner in the family. This
experience shaped his sense of responsibility
and work ethic, which then drove his remarkable academic successes culminating in the
acquisition of a PhD in education and a master's degree in statistics from the University of Utah where he and I both completed our doctoral
studies. When we were in the program, Mohomodou' s wife, Zeinaba Maiga, and children joined
him in the U.S. and a few more babies were later born into their family bringing the total to 6
children. On October 28, 2020, Dr. Boncana lost his battle to complications from a pneumonia
that probably crept up on him while he was
absorbed by his extremely busy teaching and
academic research schedule at the University of the Virgin Islands. Now more than ever,
the family he worked so hard and selflessly to
protect and support needs our solidarity, so let's start helping his bereaved wife through this
fundraiser. Your donations will help cover
funeral and famiy expenses while the family's
financial situation and insurance coverage are
being sorted out.
Dr. Boncana’s wife, Zeinaba Maiga, has
consented to the organization of this fundraiser. She and other members and friends of the family have been monitoring the donations. She has
authorized me to handle the campaign,
withdraw all the donations , and transfer or send them to her. Donors who would like to
verify this mandate or communicate with
Dr. Boncana’s wife may email me through Gofundme to get her phone number. Thank you for
support.
