With heavy hearts, we had to say goodbye to our loving father, Vasiliy Kolesnik, on April 24th. He was survived by his wife of 43 years, Yelizaveta, who is a senior citizen on a fixed income. Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease earlier this year, and his health has been on the decline for the past few months. On Saturday, right before Easter, he was taken to the ER with an excruciating stomach pain. A CT scan showed a mass in his colon, which led to hospitalization. Because of his pain, he did not have any appetite and was very weak and fainting at any attempt to get up. In just a matter of one day, he became completely bedbound, lost all strength, and was in more pain. On Wednesday, he got a sudden burst of energy and gained some appetite, which gave us hope. He increased his intake of liquid diet and even had a special food request, but shortly after, he started throwing up. Unfortunately, this led to aspiration, and his oxygen level suddenly dropped to 70%, which was life threatening. At this point, the medical staff did all they could to keep him comfortable. Our mom and our sister were by his side and others were virtually present on video call to say our final goodbyes as we watched him take his last breath, and he peacefully went to rest with the Lord at 1:07 am on Thursday.
