Hello! I am helping my friend (Ingrid Rivera Jimenez) raise funds for her dear friends Oscar and Fabiola who recently lost their baby boy Adriano. He was born with a syndrome called Menkes disease. It is an inherited disease in which the body has trouble absorbing copper. This disease affects both mental and physical development.
In the beginning of May 2023, Adriano was admitted to the medical center where, due to his condition, they had to intubate him and give him artificial respiration. Oscar and Fabiola were with him day and night without being able to work and earn money.
Oscar is the owner of a small hamburger stand where he normally works at night and during the day he drives for Uber. Fabiola was with Adriano 24/7 attending to his needs and taking care of him.
On May 30, 2023 Adriano passed away after battling like a true champion. Funds raised are to pay off the medical expenses and funeral services as they used all of their savings during the time the quit work to spend with their son.
Adriano was, is and will continue to be such a loved baby and we know that he is now enjoying the kingdom of God!
ABOUT MENKES SYNDROME:
Menkes syndrome is caused by a defect in the ATP7A gene. The defect makes it difficult for the body to properly distribute (transport) copper throughout the body. Consequently, the brain and other parts of the body do not receive enough copper, while it accumulates in the small intestine and kidneys. Low copper levels can affect the structure of bones, skin, hair, and blood vessels and interfere with nerve function.
Menkes syndrome is generally hereditary, which means it is passed from parent to child. The gene is on the X chromosome, so if a mother carries the defective gene, each of her sons has a 50% (1 in 2) chance of developing the disease and 50% of her daughters will carry the disease. This type of genetic inheritance is called a recessive X chromosome. In some people, the disease is not inherited. Instead, the faulty gene is present at the time the baby is conceived.
Adriano was the 33rd baby in the whole world having the disease.
