It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Sreang Ly Keo. For those of you that knew him, you knew that he was kind, pure, a fighter and a survivor.
Keo Ly Sreang was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on December 1, 1949. He lived a fruitful life as a child. His father was the town mayor and his brothers were city officers. He was the youngest of six children. He was a special individual, born a twin. As a teenager, he dedicated two years of his life at the monastery in honor of his parents. It was here, at the monastery, that Sreang developed his honest, patient, and supportive stature.
After his time at the monastery, Sreang married and had three kids with his wife. But his life with them was cut short when he joined the Cambodian army due to the the outbreak of war. He never saw them again. It was through this tense experience that Sreang developed his strength, determination and courage. Despite all the hardships and trauma he experienced, he survived and persevered.
In 1974, to escape the turmoil in Cambodia, Sreang came to America as a refugee. He settled in Sacramento, California and met the love of his life, Thy Phoung. He lived there for 22 years and had 5 children. He was a hardworking man who put his family first before anything else.In 1996, Sreang relocated his family to Lynn, Massachusetts, where he retired and lived the next 25 years in peace and tranquility.
Sreang wasn’t a man of many words but he was a man of loving warm smiles. He did not socialize much but any time you needed him; he was always there. He was one phone call away; even though it was hard for him to hear. He was silent in his words but loud in the way he supports you.
Sreang did not have any family in the States but he built his own. Keo is survived by his children Thout Tho, Pheap Phoung, Sokhan Keo, Sokleang Keo and Sokheng Keo. In return, his children gave him 7 grandchildren: Kyle Louprasong, Caden Louprasong, Charlene Tho, Kiley Tin Tho, Kaden Tin Tho, Elijah Keo-Francois, Ariyah Keo-Francois.
As you can imagine, his family was not prepared for the financial burden that comes along with a proper funeral. That is why I am reaching out to you all in hopes that you’ll show your support. Any amount will be greatly appreciated by their family during this tragic time.
