Hello! We are the Cortez family.
We are currently hosting a fundraiser to raise funds for funeral costs for Hortencia, a strong mother in our family. Hortencia had a 3-4 year battle with cancer. Our family first discovered her condition in late 2017 after a general surgeon operated to remove a hernia. During the operation, the doctor saw a lump on Hortencia's ovary. We urged ourselves to find an oncologist with the specialty of gynecology.
The Oncologist diagnosed Hortencia in 2018 with early Ovarian Cancer. Hortencia received chemotherapy for most of that year until late 2018 where she had an operation to get her ovaries removed. Hortencia continued her chemotherapy for the rest of the year and most of 2019 until she was diagnosed that she beat cancer. She had scheduled follow-ups to check on her condition till the end of 2019.
At one point, her follow ups in early 2020 revealed that her cancer had returned. We tried to get Hortencia back to see an Oncologist, but we were delayed due to insurance changes and primary care doctor issues. In late Spring of 2020, due to the pandemic, it took us a few months to get her to see a new Oncologist. Hortencia received chemotherapy treatment right away.
At the start of 2021, Hortencia went to the ER due to health issues that were linked to her cancer. She was told she had only hours to live because her condition was too risky to treat.
Hortencia means a lot to our family, she leaves behind her husband and her three grown up children.
We started this campaign to help raise funds for the funeral costs of Hortencia. Our goal will be $20,000 USD. Jesus Cortez will be organizing funeral arrangements and paying the final expenses for Hortencia's funeral. We will be needing funds as soon as possible. The Cortez family is currently struggling with out finances so any donations would be very appreciated.
