Funeral Fund for Matthew J. Davis
Donation protected
On the morning of Wednesday, October 30, 2019, we lost Matthew J. Davis. For the past twenty-two months Matt has been battling an unrelenting form of melanoma. Although Matt recently received bad news about the status of his condition, he was fully prepared to continue his fight against cancer, even if only to enjoy a few more months with family and friends. However, in the week preceding his death his condition deteriorated so rapidly that everyone was caught off guard. Even the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute was surprised to learn that Matt passed away this quickly, despite having one of the most aggressive melanoma cases they have seen.
The Davis family has been overwhelmed by the number of people who know and love their son, brother, uncle, and cousin. In the days before and after Matt’s passing, Doyle and Carolyn’s home has been full of family and friends who came to see Matt and share stories with each other about Matt. It was an awesome sight to behold. Although he was weak and unable to say more than a few words at a time, Matt enjoyed seeing and hearing the people who filled his childhood home. Matt’s final hours were filled with love.
In the days since Matt’s passing many people have reached out to the Davis family to ask how they can help? Matt dearly loved his family. He always downplayed his condition because he did not want to upset or burden his family. Unfortunately, the past twenty-two months wiped Matt out financially. He was unable to work for most of that time and, despite having continuous private insurance coverage, the medical bills were staggering. Although Matt did not want to leave his family with any financial responsibility for his funeral expenses, that was simply not possible given the extent and length of his illness.
This is where we, the people who know and love Matt, come in. Matt always gave more than he received and now we finally have the chance to return the favor. If you want to honor Matt and the role he played in your life, you can say “thank you” by contributing to his funeral fund. If you know a member of the Davis family and want to help in some way while they grapple with the loss of Matt, you can help by contributing to Matt’s funeral fund. Although the money raised will go directly to Matt’s family to offset Matt’s funeral expenses, this fund is really about us saying thank you to Matt and letting the Davis family know how much we love and support them.
