On Saturday, May 12, 2018, shortly after 1 AM, our uncle Mario Fernandez lost his aggressive battle to pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed in January which quickly spread to his lungs and liver slowly attacking his entire body. Mario's condition worsened after chemo and in May was told he had a few more weeks to live.
Mario passed away at the age of 66 leaving behind his two sons, Carlos and Michael and his beloved wife, Norma, of 34 years.
Mario was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia and was the eldest brother to Rosario, Inez and Marcelo Fernandez. Mario was the last of his siblings to migrate to the United States along with his sister Inez and mother Toribia Barrientos in the 1970's. It was in San Francisco where he met his wife Norma and settled down to build his new foundation and provide for his two sons. Mario worked at the San Francisco Scottish Rite Masonic Center on 19th Avenue for over 30 years, serving the organization as their head custodian. He was a hard-working husband and father that passed much too early.
No one is ever ready for the loss of their husband, father or family member and we are hoping to support our family by helping out as much as possible with the funeral costs. Any donation amount is truly appreciated. The funeral will take place next Saturday, May 26th at 11am.
