Funeral Fund for Herminia Mendoza Portalatin

Donation protected
At 10:51pm on Nov 5th, 2019 my beloved grandma, Herminia Mendoza Portalatin, also a mother, great-grandmother, cousin, and tia finally went to be in her Savior's arms. She has also been reunited with her siblings and with my grandfather, her first love, after 20 years apart.

She was a woman who was full of life and God saw fit to bless this earth with 90 years of her prayers, encouragement, friendship, laughs, trying to teach her grandchildren Spanish and amazing cooking!  She would tell her grandchildren when they were getting "too skinny" and would always try to feed us. Actually, she tried to feed everyone because that was just one of the many ways that she showed her love. She would joke along with her children as everyone sat around and told stories about how they grew up as a family of 10 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. She was a faithful Believer, with unshakeable faith in Jesus and she showed others His love and kindness daily.

Since last year, her health began to suddenly decline, and even more rapidly within the last 6 months, where there were many hospital stays. To the family, it seemed as if one day she was a vibrant 89 year old, and then the next she was a fragile 90 year old. Due to congenital heart failure, and a muscle disease, she has finally begun the eternal chapter of her life with her Heavenly Father.

Even until her last days at in-home hospice, she would pray and thank God, though she could barely speak. Even when it hurt to move, she would lift her hands in praise to God and thank Him for His goodness. It was a moving and impactful sight to witness.

She, along with my grandfather, have left a priceless spiritual inheritance that has lasted for generations and will be passed down to future generations. We will miss her dearly, but we look forward to being reunited with her one beautiful day in heaven.

The family was able to cover a large portion of the funeral expenses, but there is still $2,500 remaining. We would be ever so grateful to you if you would bless us with a gift of any amount so that we can celebrate her life. All funds will be put into an account specifically for funeral expenses and managed by my father, David Portalatin. I will also update this page with the funeral arrangements once they have been solidified. Your presence would be so very welcome.

Please continue to keep us in prayer as we lost the Portalatin Queen today, yet God called home His mighty warrior, and she is worshipping Him face to face pain free.

Blessings,
Bethsaida (on behalf of the Portalatin family)
