Help Support Norma’s Funeral Service

Donation protected

Our beloved Norma, also known as Nana to many, unexpectedly and suddenly passed early on Saturday morning, at 5:30 am,  June 18th, surrounded by family. Norma was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched all of the lives of those around her. She leaves behind her children Janice (Robert) O'Brien, John (Kathleen) McClintic, and Jennifer (John) Zepp; 5 grandchildren, Jeffery (Corrie) O'Brien, Kassandra (Cody) Renea Armstrong, Maria O'Brien, Jasmine McClintic, Skyler (Rebecca) McClintic; 7 great grandchildren; and her siblings Jackaline Wathne, Joe (Mary) McCall, Vera McCall, and Janet Weeks.

Norma dedicated her life to helping those around her. Graduating from East High School in 1966, she started her family after marrying her High School sweetheart, the late Wilbur McClintic Jr., mothering three children, Janice, John, and Jennifer. Wilbur was the treasurer of the Des Moines Postal Bowling League at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines, IA and Norma was a very involved with the league, helping Willie with his treasurer duties, continuing after his passing in 1995. She served her community as an ESL tutor for Laotian refugees in the 70s and 80s, and started her career in healthcare around the 80s as a volunteer. She became a certified nurses aide/certified medication aide for nursing homes shortly after beginning to volunteer, which lasted for 25+ years. Even after she ended her career in healthcare, she gave herself to serving those around her by volunteering. A lover of crochet, she worked with friends from the 4 Mile and Norwoodville Senior Center Programs to crochet Plarn sleeping mats for the homeless, repurposing used plastic bags. Norma effortlessly touched many lives, bringing laughs, happiness, and love to all of those around her.

We are devastated by the unexpected loss and unprepared for the high funeral service cost. With Norma's financial circumstances towards the end of her life, she could not prepare for this moment, although we know she wished she could have. We want to give Norma the memorial she deserves, honoring her memory and to say our last goodbyes.

Norma's family is currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of the funeral. We need to raise $6,500 to $15,000 this week to afford the funeral services and allow her memory to be honored in the style she deserved. We are asking our family, friends, community, and anybody who can help to consider donations instead of flowers and cards. Even $5 is helpful and appreciated! Sharing our mission and saying prayers would also benefit our goal if you cannot assist financially. We thank everyone who holds Norma in their hearts, and we appreciate and are thankful for any help that can be given.

There will be a celebration of life planned for a later date, that our family will announce when plans have been made.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who would like to, to donate to the fundraiser.

Thank you so much. We also send our prayers and well wishes to you and your families as you also grieve the loss of Norma McClintic.

❤️ Norma's family.
