Funeral for Michael -Mumer- Martin
Michael "Mumer" Martin died peacefully with his sister by his side on Thursday, April16 at about 7:00 pm. He was 52 years old. He had been sick and out of work for about 18 months and was in the hospital from the middle of February until the day he died.
When their father died, Mumer committed to taking care of their mother, and he always supported her. He moved back home to care for her about 10 or 12 years ago. A couple of years ago, she had a stroke, and while she has recovered, she is going deaf and dealing with Type II diabetes. Through it all, Mumer was her rock.
Mumer was a good and generous man, who would help anyone at any time, often giving to people when he didn't have much to spare himself.
When he got sick, his income dried up. He withdrew all of his retirement savings to cover living expenses and COBRA insurance and by the time he went into the hospital, he had pretty much exhausted that money. He leaves behind mostly debt that was accumulated over the past couple of years. His parents got a Brown Service policy when he was a child, but it doesn't cover even a quarter of the cost of his funeral, despite his request to keep things as simple and inexpensive as possible.
We are raising money to cover the cost of his funeral and related expenses so that his mother will not have to go into debt to cover it. She doesn't have a lot of money and his last wish was to not be a financial burden on her.
The funeral will be simple, he was cremated and his cremains will be buried in the family plot with their father on Friday, April 24th. We would like to be able to pay for it on that day. Any support would be very much appreciated.
