Funeral for Matt Smythe
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Allie, Kristine’s cousin. Matt has known me his entire life as Auntie Allie.
On the morning of December 11, Matthew passed away at the age of 29.
When Matt and Krystee were younger, Kristine and I shared an apartment. I remember having a Grateful Dead record on display. It was Skeletons From the Closet, and Matt was obsessed with that record. We would listen to it all the time. In my head and heart, Matt will always be that sweet freckle-faced little boy with the infectious smile, flashing a peace sign at me and saying “Jerry Groceries”. Garcia was just too hard for a 4 year old to remember. That is my favourite memory of him.
Matt has been struggling with the demon of addiction. And anyone who knows anything about addiction knows it is a bitch to battle. It’s a disease that does not discriminate between age, gender, education or class. It takes no prisoners and is ruthless in its assault.
Matt was loved and cared for by so many. I’ve been pouring over the tributes from his friends, and they all mention how smart he was, how kind, gentle and caring, and his incredible love for animals. Matt was the sweetest soul, ever since he was a young child. Animals also knew that about him. Dogs and cats alike, all loved him.
I wish Matt had been able to find his peace here with us on earth. I hope his loved ones find comfort in their memories of him. I know he was incredibly loved and will be missed by so many.
The ugly truth about death, is it is expensive. Funerals cost an incredible amount of money. Losing a loved one is hard enough, without having to worry about the costs involved. I’m hoping by starting this fund, we can take some of the pressure off Kristine and Krystee.
Please donate if you are able, and please feel free to share a memory of Matt. <3
