Funeral For Jimmy & Jamy Torres
Dear Friends, ʻOhana, and global family,
It is with regret that we write to inform you of the passing of Jamy Torres and her father Jimmy Torres.
If you knew Jamy at all you knew her passion and talent for theatre, her infectious sense of adventure, her unflagging optimism, and above all, her selfless and continuous giving of herself—be it her time, her talent, her friendship, or her any monetary resources.
Jamy was a provider, a friend, a confidant, a big sister, a daughter, an aunty, a performer, a community member, and her death has created a huge void in uncountable lives, especially those of her family.
This beautiful soul passed away the night of August 6th after losing a devastating battle against covid-19. We were blessed to spend 41 vibrant and cherished years with her.
Her father, Jimmy Torres passed just 19 days after Jamy. He faced many physical ailments over the years and always persevered. Although Jimmy successfully fought his battle with COVID-19 without having to be ventilated, his weakened immune system was not a match for the staph infection soon contracted and he was re-hospitalized the same day Jamy passed away and spent the next couple of weeks on life support until he passed away on 8-25-21, just 19 days after losing his daughter.
Jimmy was a fiercely loyal family man. Dedicated to his wife, 5 children, and 10 grandchildren. He lived to be around his family and cherished all the time he spent with them. He was the Executive Director of the Waimanalo Teen Center, a nonprofit community organization dedicated to providing alternate activities to at-risk youth in Waimanalo, for 35+ years. He was always advocating for the downtrodden, the underdog; anyone who needed help, assistance, a place to stay, an ear to listen; he was so selfless! He was honest, reliable, dependable, and loved by many. He was the oldest of nine children and was looked up to by family, friends, and any who had the privilege to know him.
Jamy was one of Jimmy's caretakers, along with her sister Marni and brother Wyatt.
No one who met Jamy, Jimmy, or their family has been spared the impact of their passing. If you are able to contribute financially, please consider donating to assist the continued support of her family as they struggle through this loss. Any denomination would honor the life and memory of Jamy and Jimmy by reciprocating the love and generosity we were all so blessed to receive.
Your support will go toward funeral expenses. A private viewing for the family has been arranged. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a bigger gathering will commence when it is safer to gather.
In gratitude. xo
