My grandson Demetrius Green's life was suddenly taken from us due to neglect. He was 27 years old and was institutionalized in a facility that is not favorable for a black man. He has a 5 year old daughter that will never hug her daddy and a family that has been robbed of conversations, visits, laughter, hugs, smiles, jokes and most of all love. We are in a world that has entrapped so many people and unfortunately some lives has been taken for us to see we need to unite in order to get a change. If you knew Demetrius you knew he was loving, funny, sensitive, and a joyful person. He made some mistakes, not against anyone else only himself. He was made to feel by society, because of not looking the norm, that he would not and could not make it in this sterotype world. So many of our Black men believe this after being beaten down, slapped in the face, doors closed and given jobs that would never pay the bills, and never raise their self esteem. If only we had a rehabilitation society that would really help to build, to not just lock the doors to bind people in chains with a motive to never forgive them. A society that strongly have intentions to let you be free. A society that would hold my hand to success, rather than to downtrod you to failure and keep you down. Convincing others they will never amount to any self worth in today's society. This is my story of how I saw my grandson struggle against how we tried to enstill in him that the world was different than what he saw. Please help us give him a decent burial, he did not have any burial insurance. Regardless of what life is for you the price of a burial remains the same. We need this for our family for our Meechie. Thanks
