To my dear family and friends, it is with sadness in my heart I publicly share the news that our beloved Father Andy Waru has passed away, suddenly but peacefully in his sleep on Nov 17th, 2019.
Andy was the single father to five, now adult children.
Reihana, Margaret Mehana, Mark, William and Kathleen Raukura. He was also the Grandfather to 19.
Although I knew eventually this day would come, I am still very sad. My grief for my fathers passing is tempered by the fact that prior to moving to Perth in 2016 I was able to care for my dad for 4 yours, regularly taking him to hospital appointments, cooking for him and taking him out on the water. He definitely had a passion for catching fish and eating it!
Those years I spent with my dad were some of the most precious and blessed years of my life.
Unfortunately at such short notice I am not in a financial position to fly back to New Zealand so quickly and am reaching out to anyone who would like to chip in.
Any contribution, big or small is received with much appreciation and gratitude. Please do not feel any obligation to contribute, your prayers & condolences are worth more than money.
Anything raised will also contribute to funeral costs and expenses. A burden currently carried by some of my siblings based in New Zealand.
My dad will be buried according to Māori custom. His tribal affiliations are to Ngāti Kuri and Te Uri O Te Tai of the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region of New Zealand. His casket will remain open for three days at Tuhirangi marae so that whānau (extended family) and friends can see him prior to being buried.
Every day is a gift. Cherish each breath and value the ones you’re given.
