Funeral Expenses for Travis Smith

Our hearts are heavy this holiday season as we mourn the loss of our dear friend, Travis Smith. His exit from this world was not an easy one, as he gave his life protecting those he loved. Please read the next paragraph with caution as it contains some unpleasant details.
On December 7th in the early hours of the morning, Travis was with his girlfriend and her 3 young children when her ex began to violently demand access into the home. While the children hid, Travis tried to non-contentiously remove the ex-girlfriend from the home. At some point she managed to force her way into the home, steal a knife from the kitchen, and begin attacking him. Travis is the kind of man that would do all he could to remove violence, without violence. As his family and friends well know, he would never hit a woman. Though he tried to defend himself, the ex managed to knock him unconscious. After which she proceeded to continue the attack. After regaining consciousness, he was miraculously able to call 911, and be admitted into the hospital. The children and mother were kept safe. However, due to the injuries, he was unable to make it.
This tragic moment in time is one where we mourn for our losses deeply, but also celebrate the ways in which this wonderful man influenced and affected so many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
As a favorite verse of scripture says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Travis loved deeply and was loved endlessly. We will miss his warm smile, jokes, and kind heart.
This GoFundMe is to help his family cover the expenses of such an unexpected and untimely death. Any help is greatly appreciated as funeral expenses can be very costly.

For all transparency purposes, I am a friend of the family and roommates with Jessica, Travis's sister, in Utah. All of the funds will go directly to the family, as Jessica is the direct beneficiary. She will use the funds to help pay for the funeral and other expenses (such as debt) that the family is responsible for in regard to this tragic event. Thank you all for your generous contributions!!
