Funeral Expenses for Sonny Norris

Donation protected
A Celebration of Life for William Sonny Norris will be held at Mundy Funeral Home - South Chapel on Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 2pm to 6pm. The funeral home is located at 6853 S York Hwy, Clarkrange, TN 38553. The phone number is [phone redacted]. This time will be the visitation and service combined. Papa's wishes were to be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation be made to help cover the cost of the funeral. A donation can be made through the GoFundMe page or through the funeral home, both funds will go directly to the family.

As real estate agents, my grandparents were self-employed with no life insurance to cover funeral costs. Anything at all that can be given would be very helpful. Diana, aka Granny, appreciates more than words could express. The last thing she wants to worry about in the difficult time is how she will pay for the funeral. My family appreciates any help at all.

In the early morning hours on March 11, 2020, William Sonny Norris passed away. Sonny married the love of his life, Diana, when he was 21, they have been married 54 years. Those who knew Sonny will remember him as the Jokester. He was always cracking a joke, and would spare no expense to get a laugh. You could always count on Sonny to get you to laugh, even if you didn't want to. The most important thing to Sonny was his beautiful wife, his two kids, and his 6 grandchildren.

His wife, Diana, says this is the greatest gift he ever gave her, laughter. He was one funny man! He'd pick on you and joke with you to no end, because that was his purpose here on this Earth - to make people happy.

My papa, Sonny, never met a stranger. He was born to entertain. Along with making people laugh, papa had a successful music career. Besides his family, music was what he loved most. He had a successful career performing on stage, with some of his most notable performances being opening for Waylon Jennings, Billy Crash Craddock, and numerous Grand Ole Opry stars.

If Sonny wasn't playing music or cracking jokes, he was probably watching Tennessee Football. Papa was one of the biggest TN football fans. Every Saturday during the fall, you could find papa in his UT orange screaming at the TV.

Another one of Papa's favorite things to do was to tell stories. He had an adventurous life, full of wild and crazy times. He had a story for everything! Everyone would hang on to his every word, listening to the tales of his past. Many times I would find myself wondering how he didn't get arrested, or break something!

Many will remember Sonny from the business he and his wife started in Cumberland County. The two of them ran a successful real estate business called Realty 1 Group for over 20 years. They sold property in Cumberland County, Fentress County, and surrounding areas. Sonny would always say that his clients became family to him and he loved helping people.

Papa was a country boy from the start, and a self-claimed redneck. He was born and raised in Clarkrange and had many ties to the community. He loved telling stories of his basketball days playing for Clarkrange High School, especially the ones involving his greatest rival - York High School.

Throughout the day I have been recalling some of my favorite memories with my papa. When I was little and would stay the night with him, we would stay up really late eating ice cream and watching Threes A Company. He would take me to McDonald's anytime I wanted, and he let me think I ran his office. Man, did he spoil his grandkids! When I got older, he would take me to the state park so I could run because I was on the cross country team. No matter how many times I would tell him, he always insisted on following behind me in his car just so nothing would happen to me. He'd come to all of my meets, soccer games, my brother's karate practices, my sister's soccer games, and Lord only knows how many school programs he sat through for us. Having 6 grandchildren kept him busy, that's for sure. But he never once complained. He was so happy to be there and was always our biggest fan. I'm at a loss for words for how to put into words how special of a man my papa was. I'll just tell you this, if you were able to meet home, you were blessed. Knowing him meant you loved him, and that's a gift I will never take for-granted.
