Robin O'Neal Wilkes - Daughter, Mother, Sister, Wife, Aunt, and Friend. She spent her life here with us all from July 18, 1967 to February 20, 2021.
With an outpour of love and support and so many wanting to help, we decided to set up this GoFundme. We never expected this day to come and neither did she. She didn't have life insurance to cover such costs. Our families are coming together to cover as much costs as possible but any help will be more than appreciated.
Mom loved to give her time to others and enjoy all the beauty in the world. She liked to cook and spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed fishing and sitting outside with her coffee, feeling the sun and breeze on her face. She loved being with her kids and grandkids and spent as much time as she could with them - even making nicknames for all her grandkids. Her close family along with her dad, sister, and brothers knew they could count on her. Whether it was setting up family gatherings, for support or a confidant, to the hardest days of losing her Mom on February 3, 2021. - she was always right there.
Thursday, February 11, 2021 around 11:30 pm she was found unresponsive and not breathing. The police performed CPR and the EMTs intubated. We spoke with the EMS and he stated that during intubation the EMS said she started gasping for breath and opening her eyes with a look of alert and panic on her face so they sedated her to prevent more stress on her body. She was taken to a hospital and admitted to the ICU. They performed scans on her heart and brain and determined she was in congestive heart failure and began lasix to remove fluid. They placed her in an induced coma. On Friday, February 12, 2021, they began the process of cooling her down to reduce swelling of her brain and heart. This was effective. Then, Saturday, February 13, 2021, they began to warm her up to 98.6, she maintained that temperature. She had to maintain that temperature for 24 hrs before they could do the EEG scan on her brain Sunday, February 14, 2021. They were able to lessen the amount oxygen given to her through intubation. Monday, February 15, 2021, through Thursday, February 18, 2021, we called multiple times a day to hear the latest updates which slowly began to stale. On Friday, February 19, 2021, my sister's, our Papa, and I went to meet with a pulmonologist to discuss Moms condition. She had brain activity but it was limited to involuntary motions such has tremoring, her eyes opening, and breathing some on her own. We were so hopeful and praying that something would change this week.
On Saturday, February 20, 2021, At 6:45 pm our beautiful Mom went to be with Jesus, our Grandma, whom passed just 17 days before, and all of those we've lost before her. Left with cherished memories of her are her Dad- Harold O'Neal, Husband- Richard Wilkes, Daughters- Jennifer (Doug) Highsmith, Brandi (Donald) Wagner, Stephanie (late husband- Roger) Burdette, Sister- Gail Porter, Brothers- Buddy (Chrissy) & Doug (Sonya) O'Neal. Her treasured grandkids Bradley, Kaleb, Travis, Tyler, Dawson, Ryland, Kenzie, and Ellie. And so many Aunt's, Uncle's, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and friends that thought the world of her.
Our family is still coming to terms and finalizing her last days here with us. We will update with service details as soon as we can.
Please know we appreciate your support, love, and sympathy in this heartbreaking time. We know you're all here to help in any way you can because if you knew our Mom you know the treasure Heaven has gained.
